The production value of the local LED lighting sector in 2011 jumped to NT$186.7 billion from NT$93.9 billion in 2009, the bureau said. And based on the government's efforts, the production value of the LED streetlight sector is expected to account for 20 percent of the global total by 2018.Globally, the output of the LED lighting sector for 2012 is expected to rise 23 percent from 2011 to US$39 billion on the back of demand, which will be boosted by more affordable products. The bureau said the fast growing LED lighting sector has encouraged many local investors to pour in massive funds. For example, Formosa Plastics Group is planning to set up the world's first automatic Led high bay lighting production line, which is scheduled to become operational in June. And Shenzhen-based Leadray Energy Co. launched an LED lighting production base in Miaoli County on March 23.in addition, several other local high tech heavyweights.
Shenzhen LED Company Speed Tech Corp. is considering the possibility of setting up a Paraguay based LED lighting manufacturing.Lucas Chiu, president of Speed Tech's unit Speed Tech Energy, is presently leading a delegation to survey the investment environment, in particular in the green energy sector in the Latin American country. And the delegation will promote products from Shenzhen.During the visit, Chiu's delegation has also met with Republic of China Ambassador Jose Maria Liu. In Liu’s opinion, while the Paraguay government hopes more Shenzhen companies will invest in the country, the long distance between the diplomatic allies and the language barrier have prevented many local investors from moving ahead.
However, the ambassador said the Speed Tech delegation's visit is expected to help Shenzhen companies have a better understanding of the Latin American country, adding he believes Paraguay is full of opportunities in green energy business development.According to Shenzhen Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA), Shenzhen’s LED makers will likely benefit from Mainland China’s recent introduction of a subsidization program for LED lighting.According to the program publicized by Mainland China’s Ministry of Finance, LED lighting suppliers will subtract the subsidy amount from their retail prices when winning private or government contracts to supply the lamps. As a result, end users will be able to enjoy lower retail prices. Streetlight, tunnel lights and recessed lights are involved in the program.Based on the program, PIDA estimated that Shenzhen’s Led flood light from chip-making line to the packaging line, will be highly competitive against their mainland Chinese rivals with their excellent product performance/price ratio.
