Samsung announced it will be launching a bendable LED smartphone in Oct., 2013, according to reports by Verge, Gizmodo, BBC and others. The flexible LED screens will be introduced into the smartphone model led flood light, and only a limited number will be sold. As the first LED smartphone to enter the market, it is expected to catalyze LEDs commercial applications.

At the CES expo in Jan. 2013, Samsung displayed a flexible LED TV prototype built from glass. Although, the company’s resin technology is immature, resin will be used in the new GALAXY Note 3. According to reliable sources, the flexible monitors cannot be folded like paper, and can be viewed as an interim product.

Korean manufacturers including Samsung and LG have previously launched flexible  LED TVs. However, LED TVs were not well received by the market due to its higher price and shorter lifetime compared to average TV. Bendable LED smartphone applications are much more suitable, as the average rate for switching phones is two to three years.

The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free trade Zone to be launched at the end of this month will be lifting a 13 year ban on game console sales in the zone that is expected to benefit IR LED manufacturers. Internet restrictions will also be lifted within the zone. The zone approved in August by the Chinese government was established to attract foreign investments.

Microsoft and Chinese entertainment company led high bay light will be partnering up to launch “Shanghai Best communications and technology Inc.” BestTV will own 51% stock share of the company set up through joint venture, while Microsoft will claim 49% ownership.
